Harmful Ingredients in our Beauty Products! (&&my solution

Hey guys~ Happy Tuesday! I know I usually don’t post on Tuesdays but this couldn’t wait. I had a hard dose of reality this week- our lives are surrounded by products with harmful ingredients. If you guys remember my post last week on the Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water and how I gave it a rave? Well I also posted it on my instagram and a follower commented that she liked it too!…until she found out it has cancer-causing ingredients.. I was like.. whut. I realize that this is common occurence in the beauty industry it doesn’t excuse the problem. And I pride myself that I try to stick to organic, safe and green products so this was a huge blow to my ego.

So I googled Garnier + cancer and found out the articles supporting this claim. Oh fck.

polyaminopropyl biguanide (PHMB)

This substance is a preservative && is found in basic skincare products like lotions and makeup removers. I get that you need preservatives to keep products long lasting and stable but this PHMB can potentially cause cancer and has been prohibited by the EU but according to the article I read it hasn’t fully taken effect.. All the big players in the beauty industry still include this in their products including my Garnier Cleansing Water..

I even tweeted about it and Garnier answered me! This was their response..

Yeah I’m not calling that number. Thanks for the reply though. It shows great customer service but I’d rather you get rid of this ingredient in your products.. Not a health concern my ass. It’s like smoking 3 packs of cigarettes a day and saying you have the lungs of an opera singer. Just impossible.

I legit haven’t even used 10% of my freaking cleanser yet..and now I’m too scared to even open the bottle. I’m so blown. Betrayed and scorned. As you know Hell hath no fury~~

Now I am on a mission to make sure none of us unknowingly use harmful products on our skin. Did you know our skin absorbs up to 60% of what’s on it? That means every single body lotion, soap, body wash, eye cream, foundation, and eyeshadow makes its way into our system and can affect us for much longer than we think.

photogrid_1475638330280I am planning on creating a series of blogs highlighting each and every ingredient in our beauty products and making a database of what you should look out for. What do you think of this idea?

Think of all the brands out there who take advantage of the fact that we don’t take the time to read all the complicated ingredients on product labels! And the U.S is the biggest offender when it comes to loose regulations on food and beauty products. Tsk. Tsk.

I’ve had a little private database on my cloud for awhile now but I think it’s time to make it public so we can all learn together and start using products that make us look good and feel good 🙂

Stay tuned for the first blog in my new skincare database series, Hunnyybase 🙂

Until next time guys!! Lemme know your thoughts in the comments below!

  1. This is a great idea..I have also been thinking about dedicating a whole category towards possibly toxic substances and there are yet certain ingredients that are under suspection because there is a lot that needs to be examined before putting forward a firm claim. Good Luck to you❤️❤️

    1. Yess! Together we can take over the world! Lol. Change needs to happen!! Good luck to you too sista!!

      1. Hehehe…Certainly!! There needs to be some sort of awareness without compromising any brand’s prestige through false claims..I have come across so many people just slamming ingredients without having proper knowledge about them and it is just unfair while simultaneously certain brands claim to be very “honest” and caring towards consumer’s safety and doing not even the slightest. This is just sad because people blindly trust the brand names and buy with so much respect and high hopes. xx

  2. I discovered this too (when my daughter was born). It’s frankly shocking and the subject of my blog. I encourage you to check out Beautycounter – http://bit.ly/March4thKRM to check out the products and our Facebook event on March 4th to encourage Congress to pass better laws: https://www.facebook.com/events/667841576747415/?ti=cl

It’s unacceptable that companies can continue to use ingredients that are known carcinogens and endocrine system disruptors, especially when there are safer alternatives.

    1. Oh ive heard of beautycounter! Wow thanks for the great info!!😍😍
