::BLOGGING:: 40-Hour Week Blog Schedule!

Hi bunnies! So recently I heard something that really lit a light bulb in me! “You have to put the hours into your side hustle like your full time job so it can become your full time job”. To some of you it may sound obvious but the time aspect is what struck a chord with me. I spend 40 hours a week on my day job being an accountant. After 5pm I go home and do blogging and instagram here and there for my blog but I’ve never actually measured it. I have no idea how many hours a week I actually spend on my blog!

SO HERE WE GO I tested it! I spent one whole week (monday to sunday) using the stopwatch on my phone to track how many hours I’m actually spending blogging. I even set a goal – 40 hours for the week.

Of course this is all outside of my accounting hours so it’ll be any time spent from 5pm – whenever I go to sleep each night.

Here’s some of the tasks I clocked time for –

  • Pinterest pinning images from my blog
  • Posting/Scheduling instagram posts
  • Posting/Scheduling Twitter posts
  • Testing Beauty products
  • Editing images and videos
  • Engagement on all my social media platforms

Here’s the day totals!

  • Monday I did 2 hours and 30 minutes.
  • Tuesday was 1 hour 36 minutes
  • Wednesday was 2 hours 31 minutes
  • Thursday was 2 hours and 12 minutes
  • Friday was 1 hour
  • Saturday was 2 hours 51 minutes
  • Sunday was 1 hour 9 minutes

7 days blogging was a total of 13 hours and 49 minutes. Not even close to 40 hours….

By Tuesday I was already feeling like a failure. Monday was a more productive night for me than usual and I was only clocking 2 and a half hours?? I REALLY was not putting in as much time to my blog as I thought! No wonder I’m not satisfied with my blog; I wasn’t putting in enough time and effort into it! GAH.

With the heightened awareness I had i did come up with so many more blog post ideas and began to DRAFT MY INSTAGRAM POSTS. I’ve actually never done this before. Why? Because Instagram freaking doesn’t let you do it. They don’t allow third party apps to do it for you either. It’s a gigantic pain in the ass. I never wanted to invest the time to schedule beforehand but now that I did it, it’s so much easier day to day. It’s like meal prepping! LOL

Overall I feel like this method of working on my side hustle might be a littler cumbersome but COMPLETELY effective. It makes me so much more aware of my time management! My first week was an absolute fail but hey, I’m gonna get better as I go. Watch me review every single beauty product on earth. <3 Here we go!

What methods have you guys implemented to be more productive? Lemme know in the comments below!

Until next time loves!

  1. Time seems to pass so much slower than you actually think if you consciously track it. I believe that entering a ‘flow state’ and getting lost in ones work (without even tracking) seems to work better for me. But your idea of making your blogging time equal working time is really interesting! I have to try it someday.
